Sumi – E
Sumi – E (Asian Ink Brush Painting and Calligraphy) is a 2 thousand-year-old tradition requiring discipline and practice. Its simplicity is deceptive and the beauty comes from the joy and frustration, the perfect and the imperfect, the modest and the humble. The class will touch on eastern philosophy and history, the 8 simple brush strokes, and the 4 gentlemen. Materials are the 4 treasures: ink, water, brush, and paper. Sumi – E style is freeing and uses the entire body, arm, shoulders, elbows, and wrists. It also helps all types of painters loosen their brush strokes.

As a former certified K-12 art teacher in Colorado, I learned how to teach to many different learning styles. My strength is in recognizing student’s needs and build upon their knowledge and skills they possess. Techniques can be taught but creativity is nurtured. My teaching experience covers every kind of medium, drawing, painting, ceramics, jewelry, fibers, and many more. I am a perennial student and will never cease to learn. This is how I keep my teaching fresh and so is my art. Education: University of Colorado – Masters in Art Curriculum, Metropolitan State University- Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts, a myriad of workshops from all over the US including Cheng Khee Chee, Sung Sook Setton, Yoshi Nakano, Yun Pann.
